Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

There’s something neat, something different about leading into this Christmas for Mark and I…  and it actually started back in January, the month we got on the waiting list…  here’s the quick rundown.  At the beginning of this year, we both started a non-formal theological study of the Bible, just weeks after we got on the waiting list. We didn’t plan it that way, it just sort of happened.  Its through an organization founded by Dennis Mock, known as BTCP (Bible Training Centre for Pastors).  They equip pastors with in depth knowledge of Scripture, otherwise unavailable to them.  They are all throughout the world, currently in over 80 countries, and we have the blessing of taking the course right here in Atlanta.

Every Thursday night, we commute over to Alpharetta and try our best to absorb all that we can in an intimate setting with our teacher (Randy Garder- who is FANTASTIC by the way!) and about 25 other students.  First was an introductory course, then in April we began Old Testament Survey.  So, just a few weeks ago, leading into the Christmas season we finished the Old Testament (first time I’ve ever read it from Genesis straight to Malachi)… and the perspective it gives on Christmas is absolutely amazing.  We just spent over 6 months digging into God’s story of relating to mankind… The Covenants He made, the exile, the poetry, the prophets, and how everything points to Jesus- and here we are, just a couple days away from celebrating His birth.  Sitting on this side of history, I never really got a grasp on the waiting, the longing for His arrival… and how specifically all of history points to Him, I just celebrated Him.  But now, now I’ve got perspective, and its magnificent.

And so back to our little wait we are in the middle of- the course in its entirety is about a 2.5 year commitment, Lord willing, it won’t take 2.5 years to get our babe(s) home, but if it does… knowing He aligned this, for us to be guided through His Word, up until their arrival is pretty cool.  And when it comes to raising children, there’s no other book I’d rather have on my heart.

If you’ve ever wanted a more in depth knowledge of the Bible without fulling committing to going to Seminary, I can’t recommend this course enough!!  Classes only open up every now and then, so continue to check their website (btcp.com), or let me know if you’re interested, I promise you, you wont regret it.
